Ahwatukee, while technically a village of Phoenix, has long been considered its own community. Ahwatukee is separated from the primary city of Phoenix by the South Mountain range. Typically considered a bedroom real estate community, Ahwatukee is home to approximately 80,000 residents. It is well known for its mid to upscale level housing, dramatic desert and mountain views, and an abundance of outdoor activities and recreation.
Ahwatukee is a land-locked community, bordered on the north by the South Mountain Range, on the south and west by the Gila River Indian Community, and on the east by the cities of Chandler and Tempe. There is very little remaining land for new homes, and because of the high demand and low supply of new houses, Ahwatukee homes have traditionally held their value better than the overall average of the Phoenix metro area.
Although Ahwatukee would be most accurately classified as a younger family community, it does have a solid population of retirement age residents as well. Although small in total land area, Ahwatukee has 5 golf courses, countless community parks, and nearly limitless access to the South Mountain range, which makes up the bulk of South Mountain park, the largest municipal park in the United States.
Ahwatukee consists of several neighborhoods including:
